WHO WE ARE: We are a motley crew that includes a few different walks of life. But we all have one common ground and that is our support and admiration for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. We have one person in particular that has a closer involvement than others. Our co-leader, Cody Barnes, is a former Wish Kid, himself. He has seen first hand the impact that the Make-A-Wish Foundation has on a child and their friends and family. Cody was diagnosed in August of 2009 at the age of 15 with a form of testicular cancer; a Mixed Germ Cell Tumor that started in his left testicle. It spread throughout the left side of his body. He started his first round of chemo on his 16th birthday. Make-A-Wish swooped in and granted his wish of a shopping spree, but not just any ordinary shopping spree. Needless to say the day was jam packed and Cody was able to forget about cancer and enjoy being a kid, while being treated like a king in every store he went in. He recalls that at the end of the day he was filled with so much gratitude: “Tears instantly filled my eyes, but I was strong. I was so grateful for all of it. All the things I wouldn’t normally have. At the end of the day I hugged everyone in the room thanking them for the day I would never forget, still fighting back tears. Let’s just say after a year hiatus from school when I returned I was the best dressed.”
So on behalf of kids all over the world like Cody we want to thank you in advance for supporting Make-A-Wish by supporting our teams efforts as we Walk For Wishes!
