Dear Friends and Family,
Welcome to our team fundraising page! We started this page to help grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions and are asking for your support. With your help we can grant one more wish to a child.
Together, we can change lives of children. The MAIA Young Agents have witnessed firsthand the power of a wish. We have walked in the Walk for Wishes with the family of Jacob Baker and spent time with Eric Oscar. Please read their stories below.
JACOB PAUL BAKER
Jacob Paul Baker bravely battled Hepatoblastoma (liver cancer) that spread to his lungs and stomach wall. He was diagnosed in October 2012 when he was only 10 months old. Through his many rounds of chemotherapy, an operation to remove 3/4 of his liver, he never fully went into remission because his alpha fetoprotein (AFP) never went below 10.
By April 21, 2014, Jacob's AFP had increased significantly and his cancer was officially back. His family was devastated when he wasn't a candidate for liver transplant due to the spread to the stomach.
Jacob was lucky enough to make it to Disney for a Make-A-Wish trip in September 2014 and then had a family party where he dressed as Woody from Toy Story. He was the life of the party and the light of our lives.
Jacob passed away at home on October 7, 2014. Jacob was the nephew of MAIA Young Agent Adam Jackson.
Eric Oscar's steep hill of health challenges make it tough to keep up with other kids his age, but through Make-A-Wish he was able to find a life-long pal in Ben. Eric has Eosinophilic Esophagitis which causes his white blood cells to attack his digestive system, not allowing him to eat regular food.
“Eric is simply a genuine guy. He is wise beyond his years and has certainly had significantly more life experiences than most people his age. He is not shy to open up and quickly befriends anyone he meets. I always like to share the first time we met, at the Make-A-Wish Michigan Wish Ball, which we were lucky to attend with Trusted Choice’s sponsorship. Eric was working the crowd and actually attempted (almost successfully) to steal my date. He then made it his mission when my girlfriend and I came to his birthday party to steal her away from me again. Being a child with a rare disease limits the friendships Eric is able to sustain with kids his own age and I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know him as a genuine kid who can light up any room.” – Ben Rathbun, The Rathbun Agency, Inc., MAIA Young Agent.
With Ben's help Eric was able to attend events with independent agents while he was in Washington, DC.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Children like Jacob and Eric are what inspired us to establish a Make-A-Wish team fundraising page. It takes an average of $10,000 to grant a wish. We would like to help another child with their wish.
Please help by contributing any amount you can- $1, $5, $10, $50, $75, $100 or even more. Every dollar you donate can help Make-A-Wish kids renew their courage and find a turning point in their lives.
Thank you for your support!
