This summer, our board is collectively committing to match all donations supporting our "Capture the Magic of Summer" campaign up to $100,000! Give now to take advantage of donation matching and to enable more kids like Cara to enjoy the magic of summer.
Since her diagnosis, Cara and her family have had to spend a lot of time indoors, which for someone like Cara is a very difficult thiing to do. The last trip her family took before her diagnosis was to visit the beach - the feeling of sand under her feet and being able to fly kites against the ocean breeze are memories ingrained in her brain. So when asked what her one true wish is, Cara knew she wanted to to travel to the beautiful beaches of Hawaii with her family.
The week was packed with activities that would optimize their time outdoors. From a luau to a dolphin encounter, to running around on the beach, Cara's mother said that they were able to feel like "a normal family again". They got to escape to a world where they didn't have to think about treatments or risks and could just embrace being together as a family.
Cara still talks about her wish, and her mother is appreciative of the fact it was the first time since her diagnosis that Cara felt like she was "at peace".
