Dear Friends and Family,
As someone with a loved one in Chi Omega, you may already know that Chi Omega Fraternity members have a long-standing and personal relationship with the Make-A-Wish Foundation®. This amazing organization grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions and provides hope, strength and joy to these children and their families.
Nationally, Chi Omega has raised more than $13 million for the Make-A-Wish Foundation®. After two successful annual events last year, our chapter raised more than $37,300 to help grant the wishes of local children in South Carolina. This year, we hope to raise even more!
To achieve our goal, the Eta Gamma chapter will be hosting our 16th annual War of the Wings. War of the Wings is a wing eating competition where various organizations in the Columbia community compete. We will also have raffle prizes, music, free food and more!
Children like Travis and Aydin are why Chi Omega holds this annual competition, to help make a difference.
Travis is in the early stages of Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy and has difficulty walking. He is mobile and wears braces to assist him, but most of the time he relies on his wheelchair. While on his wish trip in Disney, Travis had the opportunity to meet the very special Tinkerbell! When he met Tinkerbell and gave her a big hug and then she proceeded to sprinkle some of her magical pixie dust on him. According to his mother, after this interaction, Travis now INSISTS that he is completely cured because of Tinkerbell’s magical pixie dust!! He has been telling everyone, even his doctor! His doctor asked that he still try to wear his braces in case he needs help, but sweet Travis would not take that as he is confident that he is much better now! The most magical part of all- in the past month after his wish, he has only needed his wheelchair once or twice!
Aydin's parents weren't sure she'd ever speak. Her medical condition came with a long list of possible ways it could impact her life. This is what happened because of Aydin’s wish: People in her community stood together to grant her wish to be a singer. Make-A-Wish arranged photo shoots, time at a recording studio, production of CDs and a debut performance at a local music venue. Aydin's experience gave her a glimpse of what life can hold besides medical treatments and worry. Her wish was a day free from her worries. And it will always help her find courage and optimism to help her overcome challenges in her future.
We quote that “89% of health care professionals surveyed say they believe that the wish experience can influence wish kids' physical health.” Here is a true example that these wish experiences affect more than just the mind and spirit!
Help make a difference by contributing any amount you can - $30, $50, $100 or even more. Every dollar you donate can help Make-A-Wish kids renew their courage and find a turning point in their lives.
